10 ppm phosphate

Hey guys. Posting about my QT tank (first salt water tank)
My phosphate is at 10ppm and nitrate at 5ppm.
it seems that the phosphate is way too high I just did a 30% water change yesterdays.
Does this seem correct or viable?
My fish are fine, I have 2 clowns and a watchman goby in there

10?!?! what test are you using?
Nearly every coral would surely be dead at 10

How do you know the phosphate is 10ppm?

Which test are you using and are you certain you are reading the test correctly.

After you got the C2 prompt, did you hold down the button until you got the 3:00 minute countdown?

I’ve never used Hanna but you surely reading it wrong, ICP testing can only read up to 1.9 ppm is doubtful than Hanna can read higher than that

That model Hanna checker is for freshwater and is not qualified for testing saltwater phosphate.

You need the HI774 for marine tanks

You did it again with an HI774 or with the HI713 shown in your picture?

The HI713 will give nonsense results with saltwater. Every test could give diferent results.

The freshwater and marine testers use different reagents.

The Hanna HI713 phosphate tester is for marine or freshwater. The tester and reagents you're referencing are for the Hanna HI774 phosphorous tester.

OP, did you figure out what you may have been doing wrong with the tester?

Sorry, no.

I just double checked in case there was a difference in the US.

You both right no need to argue, they both for marine the difference is one is low range and the other one is ultra low range (0.00 to 0.90 and 0.00 to 2.50 ppm)

I better tell Hanna Tech support they gave me bad advice, lol.

The ULR does have marine printed on it, so perhaps that model is dedicated to saltwater.

Not half as happy as I am (been using the darned thing for almost 2 years and I was starting to worry...!)

I couldn't ascertain if it was marine only or both. I'm not sure there's a huge benefit with the ULR kits for most of us.

It’s reading something different every time. Today did it 3 times and got 0.11, 0.90 and 0.04… following all the instructions
