I picked up a gently used 29 biocube last week. LOVE it! I had read on another forum that I should take out the bioballs and replace them with rubble rock. I did this tonite, its not crammed in there full, but its about 3/4 full with decent sized pieces. Its VERY NOISY!!! is this normal? should i have taken out the balls? I heard they were just dirt mongers and that rubble rock wouldnt be so bad. Any advice/suggestions? did i do the right thing? can i put some filter floss over the rocks to try to silence it up a bit? thanks!! Sue

Im guessing you are using the water gauge on the side of the biocube to tell when your water level is correct. Forget that gauge, just fill it up to where the water fall just an inch or two. That is much quieter and how I have mine.

Live rock rubble use to be all the rage. It's become less popular over time. I agree with aerius007, fill it up. In the back of my Bio Cube 14 I ran cheato with a small lamp behind the glass. The black paint scraps off. Probably helped some, who knows.
Good luck.
