So I recently had an outbreak of ich which has affected 4 out of 6 fish. I removed all fish from display and into a 10 gallon where im treating with copper. However my clowns seem unaffected by the disease and seem to be completely free of any parasites. In all my years of fish keeping I've never dealt with an ich outbreak so I never really read up on it. Is it possible the clowns are not carrying the parasite? I'd like to leave them in the second qt tank without exposing them to the copper treatment. I have my DT running fallow now. So 4 fish in copper, 2 clown's in a separate tank and DT empty sans a few crabs 20190624_135840.jpg

They were exposed so even though they may not show signs of ich I would treat them with copper to be safe. I just went through the same and ran them through a course of CP. Getting ready to add them back in tomorrow after an extended Fallow period.

How long did you go for?

The clownfish would need to be treated with either CP or copper to make sure they are ich free. Clowns have a very thick slime coat and are usually unaffected by ich. Even though it's likely present in the gills.

You could also treat with TTM if you are worried about medicating.

IME clownfish are some of the easiest fish to treat with copper. Generally they do very well in copper. They are hardy fish and you don't see much behavioral different whether copper is present or not.

I did have them in first night of copper but they just look so much better than the others I didn't want to expose them to anything. I could treat their little tank however

It's normal for them to look better. Just like most Wrasse and gobies. They all have thick slime coats. So you won't usually see white spots on them, but they still have it in the gills.

To not medicate (or TTM) all of the fish that shared the same tank, one will likely end up carrying back into the tank as well as reinfection of your "clean" post QT fish.

Gotcha, welp I'll hit these guys with the copper again tonight as stated in directions and keep them going on it then.

I followed @HotRocks (thanks!) QT protocol for my two clowns and coris wrasse and it went well. I followed the 14 day GC medicated food, CP @ 2.0, observation and wrapped it up with the dosing GC to the tank. All went great and ready to introduce them to the DT tomorrow.
