Hi all,

I am currently setting up a 6ft tank, and need to decide on sump design. Have a look and give me your thoughts! Keeping in mind this will be (for now) to house a barramundi cod and lionfish and potentially a few of the hardier soft corals eventually.

annnnd Shoot!

Cheers.

The plans and draw up are nice. Not a huge fan of the refugium being pumped over and being on its own. I like to have refugium after the skimmer section. Other than that looks good.

Hi Redfoxtang,

Thanks for taking the time!

I knew that people like to put the refugium after the skimmer for the copepods. But I was trying to avoid a plumbing problem with getting the pipes into the drain area around the stand legs. I am using irrigation pipe most likely so it is not the most flexible. I also wanted it seperate so I could control the flow to the refugium better. Nonetheless, I agree that if I do switch from larger carnivorous fish to a mixed reef the copepods will be beneficial so I think I will just have to make the plumbing work and go with the revised plan attached?

I do like that design. Any way with this design you could put a drain in the front section then a drain in the refugium section? Just a thought so you would have some water movement through the refugium!?

Yes, you could! I also thought of that, it was one of the reasons I had the refugium on the left to start with, so that I had the possibility to do just that and avoid using a little variable speed pump in the skimmer section to supply the refugium with water. Although having the refugium now on the right, half the water will not get processed by the skimmer or filter socks if I dump a drain into it. I dont know! haha The other reason I liked the refugium on the left was that the return section was right next to the RO and Chiller making plumbing easier and neater. What do you think, still refugium on the right?

Anyone else got some suggestions as well?
