75 Gallon Stocking Help

I have a tomini tang in a 55g and he’s happy as can be - there’s a ton of rock work though so plenty of room for him to explore and it’s constantly nipping algae off the rocks/glass.

Really is an awesome fish and the white tail + orange fins add nice color.

Awesome. Thank you for all the help.

Curious of a few more questions:

1. Do we think a Midas Blenny would get along okay with a goby (Yasha)?

2. Do we think everything mentioned in this thread would get along okay with peppermint and cleaner shrimp?

3. Not stocking related, but I didn’t get any replies on my build thread. How long do we expect diatoms to last? There’s an ugly brown dusting on everything at the moment - has been there for two weeks. Nitrates are hovering at or just above zero, no ammonia, and phosphates between .2 and 0.

Stocking is currently 2 clowns, 1 Midas Blenny, and 1 Royal Gramma (which disappeared immediately after arrival a few days ago and hasn’t been seen since, but that’s another story!)

1. Midas Blenny shouldn’t give a Yasha goby any issues.

2. The only fish mentioned in here that would possibly eat shrimp would be a Flame Hawkfish (any hawk runs the risk).

3. Diatoms is tough to say cause you can think they’re gone and a week later have it back. One way to help would be just shutting the lights off for 3-5 days.
Do you have a UV sterilizer on the tank?

Also - the Gramma could just be nestled in a rock somewhere, but it could have jumped. I had a Royal Gramma jump out of my tank 2 days ago :(

Sorry about the Gramma! No UV sterilizer. Not sure how I could fit it in the sump, frankly, but wouldn’t mind one.

Reluctant to turn the lights out as I thought I had the diatoms beat the put my first batch of coral in. Talk about bad timing!

What kind of light do you have on the tank right now? If there’s anyway to dial back the white light on it that should help a little bit.

Two AI Hydra 26s on the Reefer 350. Color spectrum below. Let me know if you’d change anything.

You guys rock, btw!

I would recommend dimming the white to like 30-35%

you can also bump the UV and Violet up to 100%, but that’s more your preference on the appearance!

The Midas as said above shouldn’t really look at the yasha as the gobies will stay lower in the hierarchy.

I’m unsure if you mentioned wrasses of the genus Halichoeres, if you go for a larger species then they may eat shrimp but the smaller species will often avoid shrimp. The smaller species are more common, larger ones include Chloropterus (Jade Wrasse), and Hortulanus (Checkerboard Wrasse). Also the hawkfish may go after shrimp but they also may not.

As for diatoms, I’m assuming your tank is relatively new which means the nasties can last for Atleast a month. Mine decided to stay with me for two years… Two years of cyano wasn’t even remotely fun.

The Grammar may be hiding in the rocks as I put a new fish into my nano a week ago and she was out for I think the first 2 days and then vanished (Still unsure wether dead or not but until I spot her, she will be presumed dead)

Good morning, folks!

Hoping someone here can tell me if I made a major mistake, and as always, appreciate the help.

In addition to the clowns and midas blenny (still have no idea where the gramma went. Going to give him another week before writing him off), I saw an adorable, shy, very tiny captive bred (ORA) Coral Beauty Angel fish. I fell in love with the little dude, and brought him home. I was absolutely shocked to see how quickly he made himself at home, eats everything, and now rules the roost. No nipping, etc. but he definitely trys to keep the Midas Blenny confined to one rock, etc. and the clowns stay clear.

So, given that I now introduced a quarter sized tyrant in my tank, and somewhat decimated my stocking plan, any tips on who I could introduce next? Should I never see the Gramma again, I’m considering an Orchid Dottyback as I’m thinking they may be able to hold their own, but would be curious to hear if you think the wrasses previously mentioned or a bristletooth (two spot out Tomini) would still be worth considering adding somewhat quickly? As always open to any and all ideas.

Thanks all. I’ll send upload photos when I can! Despite my frustration with the angel, he’s gorgeous.

Not the biggest issue that you added the Coral Beauty, but might need to add your future fish in a more particular manner.

Coral Beauty shouldn't mess with wrasses too much. If you add a Bristletooth make sure it is similar size, or slightly larger then the coral beauty.

When you add new fish make sure you feed them all a little extra so that the Coral Beauty knows he isn't about to lose his lunch to the new fish in the tank.

If you are concerned you can always get an acclimation box for the new additions. This will let the Coral Beauty get used to the new fish.

Great advice as always! Thank you.

And yes, I was quite surprised at his boldness. Assuming the blood feud between Blenny (who is larger) and Coral Beauty should dissipate as they figure each other out? It’s somewhat humorous to see the battle around one rock given the tremendous amount of room they both have.

I personally prefer groups/shoals of fish, especially the gobies (If you can’t tell). Forget a tank dominated by solitary species, this is what I would personally do:
3-5 Eviota pamae
3-5 Trimma hollemani
2-3 Trimma striatum
5-10 Gobiodon okinawae (If you can find a group already for sale)
2 Elacantinus oceanops
Koumansetta hectori
Stonogobiops yasha
3 Nemaleotris magnifica
Macropharyngodon negrosensis
Halichoeres iridis
Halichoeres leucoxanthus
Cirrhilabrus lubbocki
Cirrhilabrus fifienmaa
Genicanthus melanospilos/semifasciatus
Ctenochaetus tomininesis/binotatus

This is what I have in my 4’x2’x18” tank:
Siganus magnificus
2 Cirrhilabrus lubbocki
Cirrhilabrus melanomarginatus
Ctenochaetus binotatus
Halichoeres iridis
Halichoeres chloropterus
Genicanthus melanospilos
Amphiprion occelaris x A. percula “Black Photon”
Chelmon rostratus
And I’m still hunting for a Hoplolatilus chlupatyi (The fish in my profile picture).

My nano is the tank with all the gobies, 8 fish total in a 20g tank.
Also, sorry to circle back here, but the wrasse I’m considering is Cirrhilabrus lubbocki. Gorgeous fish, and I have your post to thank for the idea.

They should get used to each other - 75g is plenty of room for both of them.

You might want to consider adding more rockwork to help divvy up the territories.

Good call.

I’d be lost without this forum. The advice from the majority of my LFSs has been lackluster at best, and y’all have been phenomenal.
