Hello, I know this had been discussed countless times but I would just like some honest feedback on my 75G stock wish list.

-Tank is well established over 2 years old
-dedicated refugium in sump with cheato -60~70lbs live rock
- 2” Sandbed (special grade)
-lots of softies and lps
-very established Copepod and amphipod colonies
- stocked cleanup crew (20+ total snails, hermits, conch

Stocking list:
-Mated pair of blue mandarin goby’s
-mated pair of clowns (oscelarous)
-pink spotted goby(4”) w/ tiger pistol shrimp
-golden domino damsel(2”)
-purple firefish(2”)
-melanarus wrasse (5”)
-coral beauty angel (2.5”)
-Flame angel (2”)( both angels are in qt together and we’re added at the same time)
-powder blue tang (3”) ( yes I know it’s a no no but when older will be transferred to larger tank.)

besides the tang outgrowing the tank in a couple years, is there any major compatibility issues with this selection? My main concern is being able to keep my copepod population where it is to keep the mandarins fat and happy, I know some of the fish in my selection are known to eat pods and I want to be sure they won’t out compete the mandarins for food.

Thank you for reading! And look forward to hearing some feedback on these guys!

IME there shouldn’t be any issues with those fish - The PBT may become a murderer in the future but that’s only a small chance and you have a plan for it when it gets too big :)

Sounds fine, damsel might become a Jerk and coral beauty might eat corals. Mandarins can wipe out a pod population quick (esp two), so id be prepared to add additional pods regularly to keep them well fed if that happens. Id just get a more tank appropriate Tang in the first place, like a kole/bristletooth/tolmini. He's likely going to have health issues in a tank that size long before size and rehoming is an issue.

+1 to this

I'm confused, tank is 2 years old and is the fish list you provided already in the tank or your proposed stocking list? Are you transferring over or something? Did you have a fallow period after a fish disease situation?

Also, I have an 80g total system with 9 fish. They are all 2.5 to 4 inches except one at 5 and the tank is maxed out. You are proposing or already acquiring 11 fish and half of them will be at least 4 inches or more as they mature. You may find yourself a bit tank crowded but each set up is different and your swimming space may be vastly different then mine.

Yes I currently am in a fallow period due to an ich/velvet outbreak. Will be out of it the beginning of March. Hence the restocking list. I currently have most of the fish in QT accept for a couple I’m questioning. But yes I am aware it’s a bit overstocked but I’ve maxed out my filtration so I believe it will Handel the extra bio load, I’ve got an Eshopps Adv 200 sump with a fuge and Eshopps x120 skimmer, I have to really try to keep nitrates and phosphates above 0 in this tank. (That’s before the fallow period) I had around the same number of fish before the outbreak all around the same size accept for the mandarins. As for the tang I did have a blue eyed kole tang however that was the tang that nuked my system with velvet. ( I have since learned the importance of proper QT…) the powder blue tank I got for a great deal and it’s been eating pellets and nori like crazy, super healthy fish.. but I am aware putting him in a 75G will soon become an issue but within a year I will be upgrading to a larger tank and in the meantime being in the 75 DT will be much better than the small QT he is currently in.

As for the swimming space my scape is very open for him to swim back and forth around the tank if that helps ease anyones mind!

I’ve had about 12-13 fish in a 3’x2’x2’ tank, so IMHO you’re light with stocking although yes some of them are heavy bioload (Two of the 12 fish I owned were tangs - Scopas and a Hippo/Regal). I also had a foxface in that tank - All 3 died in an unfortunate ammonia accident, it was either that or they all froze to death.

Thank you for the advice! I do have a plan to add more pods if they decimate the pod population, however I’m hoping since the fuge is there they will have a chance to repopulate without the risk of becoming food first. I plan to start adding phyto to help them along as well.

Yes I agree, I know physically the tank will handle them, my main concerns are everyone getting along. I’m sorry to hear that though! Those are some beautiful fish! I tried to find a scopus tang but they were all way too overpriced and very hard to find healthy.

I would get rid of the domino sooner rather than later. I love certain damsels, but that group gets big and mean.

I currently have the golden domino in my 15G nano tank with a pair of clowns and a orchid dottyback, right now he thinks he’s one of the clowns and won’t leave them alone lol. No aggression though just twords my hand when I put it in the tank..

I should mention I also plan to add the PBT last as I’ve heard it will be the most aggressive out of the bunch. Is there any other order I should consider when adding the fish slowly to avoid any aggression or territory issues?
Thank you all for the reply’s!

So far here’s my order of introduction.
-mandarins
-spotted goby
-purple firefish
-clowns
-coral beauty and flame angel together
- melanarus wrasse
-powder blue tang or domino damsel last.

IMO, that’s the best way to add them although if possible add both gobies at the same time. Nothing about aggressiveness (I have 3 gobies and I’m adding to that in a couple days) but more to get them settled sooner and be less skittish.

Yes that’s the plan, are you referring to both goby’s as the mandarins or the spotted? Or do you mean all three in the same go?

So, the mandarins are actually dragonets, the gobies I’m referring to are the fire fish and the spotted. Although if you add all 4 of them at the same time that may be even better.

Ah ok I gotcha. Yes that can be done. I forget that firefish are goby’s..
It’s easily forgettable due to them rarely being called gobies and I have sometimes forgotten it too :)
