Good suggestions from @GoVols and @mike werner :-) What you have done is also a great idea. Some have fans setup to blow across their tanks once a certain temp is reached as well. Just watch your water level as it will evap a lot faster. ;)

Lost an entire reef in 2008 when our homes AC, went out :(
We were in Florida on vacation. Have ran an chiller ever since.

Fans hitting the surface of the water do a pretty good job at cooling a tank down in most cases (aside from areas with extremely hot climate). Back in the halide days, chillers were substantially more expensive than they are now, so many people had fans that would kick on at the same time as their MH lights.

I think what you're doing right now will keep you in a good place, but as others have said, turning off the lights and having ice in bags ready to go, just in case, are good ideas. Good luck.

Time to make some RO Ice Cubes!
I keep RO water frozen in Food Saver bags in case of emergency. Very little risk of them leaking but no harm done if they do.

My ac went out one 4th of July weekend, so couldn't get anyone out for 2 days. I live in Las Vegas, it would have usually been 110, inside of my house would have been unbearable for a human much less fish and corals. Freak weather, it was cloudy all weekend and in the high 90s, my house was like 91 I think. I had 5 tanks at the time and kept all of them cool enough with fans and no lights, to lose nothing.

Thanks for all the idea I actually freez water bottles and put them in there temp stayed 77 perfect temperatura the heater would kick in when it would drop lower than that and yes I had to put one gallon of water water evaporated fast :) ac is working again wohoo
Nothing got stressed thank god or lost anything

A good strong fan can cool water by an exponential amount. If my water is 82 my fan can get it to just under 80. If it hits 85 my fan will get it down to about 81.o

The fan I'm using is the AC Infinity 1238 It's a 120mm x 38mm deep fan -- Deep fans move a LOT more air. 38mm for a computer fan is pretty nifty, and moves a whole ton of air. These are also able to be plugged directly into a wall socket (Or an Apex) and they can be daisy chained together.. So I can hookup 2, 3, 4+ all on one plug. Or you can setup more than one on an Apex, or more than one pair on an apex... Fan Bank 1 ON IF TEMP >80, Fan Bank 2 ON IF TEMP >81.5.

The only downside is evaporation will be EXTREME. Which is fine... As long as you watch your ATO like a hawk on hot days.

Any pictures of ur fan ! ?

I fill empty drinking water bottles with tap and freeze. Great way to float to cool. I keep about 18 on hand to rotate and always have some ready.

Hit 84 in my tank today I live in a studio apartment over garage that has no a/c kept temps down using fans and some igloo ice packs the inhabitants of my tank survived with no problems.
