I added a Pygmy angel fish today in 55g i have not seen him since is this normal

I’m not sure with Pygmy angels, but when I got my royal gramma, I didn’t see him for around 3 days. Look in your overflow, or sump just to make sure. The usually don’t jump, and if u have a lid, ur fine. But if u don’t have one, check to see if he might have jumped out.

It would help a lot to know what species you got, different species have different boldness levels and would affect my answer.
In short though, most pygmy angels are rather secretive by nature. You won't be seeing it swimming out in the open with your other fish until it gets used to the new environment and, more importantly, you. It's normal for any new fish (especially smaller fish) to hide for several days after adding them.
