so im new to the whole testing thing so i am trying to figure everything out.
i test today for alk and ended up with 5.50 meq/l .... so my question is

#1 how do i figure out ph from alk?? or can you???

#2 how do i know with the measurement of 5.50 what it is supposed to be? what is the preferable range???

thanks
amanda

Just buy a sep. pH kit, so much easyer!

Also what kind of test kits are you using and what are you testing for IE what other things are you testing

does anyone have a ph test kit they would recommend that gives the most accurate reading???

Yea those are awsome, BUT imo i dont think they are worth it. While pH is important it swings sooooo much, i think spending ur money on a sality tester would be better.

The important thing to remember with ph is to get it constant, You don't want too much ph swing in you tank. It's a lot easier to read the digital readout than to mess with the often never really sure if that is correct test kit. And it require no effort to turn on :)

A retractometer is a great tool to have along with a PH monitor.

very true i just dont think we have AS much control over pH as other things. To me if tis in range, and nothing is acting ill, then theres really no need to test for it.

there are test kit for almost everything for our tank like i said on the other thread that you put out i use Elos and Salifert are reliable for me the alk and BTW 3.78 liter per gallon
