I intentionally dropped my alkalinity from 11 dKH to 8 in 3ish days. Is this too sudden for coral/ will it cause any ill effect? I know a spike in alkalinity can be very bad, not sure about dropping it.

Here's some of my coral that appear deflated throughout the day, but are otherwise fine. All of my LPS appear to be doing this deflating thing then reinflating

I would only drop alk 0,5 ppm per day as a maximum. So yes it could have caused your corals to be unhappy. However, I’m pretty sure they will recover completely in a short amount of time. No worries

Big fast change usually falls into the “not a good thing” category.
However there are exceptions, like it’s OK to drop salinity fast, but never more than .002 per day on the increase.
