Already Quit

Yeah now that I don’t have to listen to a whiny pump, and water not passing through the filter. If I didn’t fix it I would have had to quit. Sleep>The Tank. I’m just happy it worked.
Why would you get rid of the tank. You could have replaced the filter or asked for help and continue with tank and sleep.

so in my case with an aio, all I can do to prime is make sure the water lvl stays above the return outlet nozzle? apart from that I’m guessing the prime takes care of itself as I can not reach a screw on the pump once it’s in place even if it had such a thing...have I got this right?
Best thing you can do for an aio is check and make sure everything is snugged up and fastened properly, and keep your water level correct... If you hear a bunch of noise, go to the source of the noise, it's a good indication there is a problem occuring...

that’s the thing I know where the sound is coming from, the pump and I know what is causing it, vibrations but fixing it seems impossible, tried silicone mats under it, new tubing p, making sure it isn’t touching the sides, hanging the pump off the base of the tank, was thinking this priming thing may be the answer but can’t see how I can do that, I did once try turning the pump on it’s side when in the chamber thinking it had air in but the chamber is way too small to do that., oh well least the jecod is acceptable sound wise, shame I have 3 spare pumps I can’t use now.

Yes you are correct sorry that was poor wording on my part. Makes me sound like a bitter sob. I was just frustrated from having a quite tank I loved to being kept up all hours of the night.
I was confused. We all have been frustrated. I think I was going to tear my tank down over problems so I understand. Happy you got the problem solved. Losing sleep is not fun

I know what you mean, my sicce .5 has a quiet yet subtle sound that puts me to sleep. Same with the skimmer. When i was building my tank i was trying to get everything dead silent, but not breaking the bank. simple things like placing pumps on silicon mats can make a night day difference. making sure your wires aren't vibrating against anything, and using soft tubing when connecting to hard plumbing on the return.

Can you tell me more about these mats, have a couple pumps would like to quieten in the sump

The noise from my water was too annoying in my room. Maybe I’ll try again later when I have somewhere else to put it. This was short lived lol.

I have two tanks in my bedroom and they are silent. You just need the right set up for a bedroom. Small AIOs with quiet quality pumps and fanless lights are the way to go if you want peace and quiet. No skimmer. The back chamber shouldn't make any noise. As long as it is topped off.

Could also just do a plain tank with no filter. All you need is live rock and a powerhead. Filters are totally optional and some people don't use them.

Don't go loads that can be done

I'm always amazed by people who say sicce syncras are quiet. Maybe just high variance due to poor quality control.

They sound like blenders compared to DC pumps. My 2000gph DC pumps are quieter than my Sicce 0.5 on my 10g.
If I restrict it, it’s super loud lol
But my .5 is silent.
Dc pumps are the ones you can set speeds right? I’ve never had one as a return so I can’t really comment on them.

They are just any silicon baking mat pretty sure. Brs sells them for like 13 bucks and you can cut them up. The one i bought was for like 3 bucks at marshalls and i cut it up.

I 100% agree, wasted money on 2 Sicce pumps and both were unbelievably noisy, same for Eheim, ended up with a jecod 90% quieter.
I just got a jecod 12000 today. Was happy to see this comment as my wife already complains that my maxspect gyres drive her insane.

O

Think with are talking different equipment here, I was referring to the jecod return pump, sounds like you are talking powerheads?

Just to add, whilst my jecod is quiet p, it’s only quiet on the lowest setting, turn it up and there is a noticeable whiny noise, I have a powerhead so can keep it turned down, the mp10 is quiet though, if your gyres don’t work out, again not silent but only noticeable in a silent room if kept below say 30-40% on most of the modes, turn the power up and again the noise is very noticeable, Even on 30-40 power some modes such as the gyre mode are very noticeable.
