I have a RBTA been with me almost 9 months now I believe. Well tonight it expelled something literally in less then a minute time as me and my wife watched. I have seen it expel "waste" before but this was different.

It expelled a sack about the size of a golf ball. Black in color with what looked like white small eggs. It came out as one big glob and my wife wanted me to scoop it out of the tank as she was quite grossed out. It free floated around the tank and before I could grab the net my Vortech pulled the glob ball into it. Well we know what happened next, cloudy tank and it looked like it was snowing in my tank. Little white "eggs" or whatever they were floating everywhere.

Fish were feeding on them crazy. Even the clowns. I did manage to snap some quick pics but there not that great as only the Reef Brites were on. Any ideas? I watched a few videos of them spawning and that wasn't what I saw. I don't target feed my anemones they just catch whatever is in the water column. I'll try and upload the pictures asap. Thanks for any ideas or explanation.. Good size water change coming in the morning.

Another Picture. Sorry about the quality. Only the blues were on. I know the pictures look like lines but if you look close you'll see they are just circular and white. The lines are just the blurs from the cell phone picture.

Everything I seen on youtube for spawning was like a white smoky cloud nothing solid. The blob ball (as I'm calling it) reminded me of frog eggs that turn into tadpoles that I last seen when I was a child. Thats the best way I can describe it. My wife agrees with me on that one.

Not my pictures but this is what we saw. Found the pictures on Facebook group and the poster didn't know what it was either.

Could be a couple things, but I really think it's just expelling waste, do you spot feed it frequently?
Never spot feed. All they eat is what ever is floating in the water column.

I'm still pretty sure that's waste, if it were expelling zooxanthellae the anemone would be lightening. If you had stressed it significantly or changed lighting I'd think that's what it was. But I'll go with waste. I've had palythoa and zoanthids that I was shocked how much they expelled.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Tank was crystal clear this morning but still did a little extra water when I did my weekly water change today. Learning and seeing new stuff everyday in this hobby. Thanks..

That's why I love this forum, with all these people there's an answer to everything. Good call doing a bigger water change, should take care of nutrients. Also it might be a good idea to change your carbon as well there's probably other things and singing cells in that goop you don't want in your tank.
