My Magnificent Foxface is magnificent in looks only. He's not too bright. I saw him rubbing up against my bta last night causing it to curl up into a tight ball. Sure enough, he now has a kiss mark from the small opening where the bta still had tentacles sticking out.

If anyone wanted to know what an anemone sting looks like on a foxface, here it is.

Very strange for him to be rubbing up against your BTA.

I think that was where he was at when I walked into the room to do some work on the tank. He froze and did his camouflage act right in front of it. He's still a bit skittish even though I've had him awhile now. Next time I need to leave the room when he stops there until he moves I guess.

Do you have a blenny? Looks like a blenny bite.

Edit: just saw the part where you said the tentacles were sticking out. Never seen that before!

I do have a starry blenny but I'm pretty sure his mouth is too small for that to be a bite! He actually has some similar marks on the other side that are more linear so I am pretty sure it is an anemone sting.

My nem forms a little almost perfect circle with an opening the size of a quarter that have tips sticking out.

Hmmm... I gave this more thought and if my blenny opened really wide he may have been able to do this. You could very well be right. I've never seen the blenny act aggressively but can't say for sure that he didn't do it. Amazing insight, thanks!
The foxface has some black streaks toward his tail that I'm pretty sure are from the anemone but now I'm not so sure about that circle. Poor guy must have had a bad night last night!

Just by luck, my nem just went into his little circle. The lights are dimming so you cant see the tentacles very well but this is almost the exact same size as the mark on the foxface.

When I first saw your pic it looked just like the kiss marks blennies leave on the glass. My starry blenny used to bite the other fish when I fed nori. Mine never had marks from it but I knew a lady that had a huge blenny with a bunch of tangs and all the tangs were scarred up from the blenny bites. They looked just like your pic but they had them all over.

I'm fascinated by this! I love learning and will be the first to admit I may make bad assumptions.

When my blues came fully on you could see exactly what my nem looked like that led me to believe it was a sting. The marks would line up almost perfectly but imo the blenny bite would explain why the circle isn't more blotched like the marks near the tail. Almost a perfect circle with a small gap on each side. Lines up almost perfect with the mark on the fish.
