I am admittedly still diagnosing my problem, but this morning, my Apex seems to have reset itself. I woke up this morning at 5:30, then at 5:45, I heard my tank drain and my powerhead started sucking air. I first assumed a problem with my return pump because the DC controller was not lit up. I unplugged it and plugged it back it but nothing happened. So I got my phone to check fusion and I couldn't connect to my Apex. Then I got my computer to try Apex.local and couldn't connect there either. The lights on the base unit were changing from green, orange, to purple but it was a bit sporadic. I unplugged it from power and waited a bit before plugging back in. When I did, it booted up with the blue light. I connected to the onboard wifi network, and re-entered the Wifi info from Apex.local. When it logged me in, the Apex was completely wiped of all my settings.

I have a copy of my config so I wasn't that upset about losing the settings. I realized that the outlet I have my return pump in (outlet 8) is not turned on by default and that was why the pump wasn't working. That seemed to have been that so I did some quick config of the return pump, heater, and a powerhead to keep things fine while I was at work.

Well, got home and it seems like the whole thing has happened again, no telling how many times over the course of the day. I know it reset again because I quickly renamed the outlets for the return pump and powerhead this morning when I figured that out.

I bought the Apex in January, it's on the latest firmware and hasn't had any issues up until now. I have an EB832, FMM for ATK as well as a DOS hooked up. This is the Apex EL Unit.

I'm plugged into a power strip now so it's not exactly an emergency...but I'm not that pumped about the hardware I spent $1000 on not even letting me know there was a problem. I didn't get a "heartbeat" notification until 9:45am. The BRS guys got the fear of god in me so I have everything being power monitored but never got a single alert.

Also, an odd thing is that the output logs have somehow been retained through all of this. Within Apex.local I can see all the output logs going back to March. The labels are wrong because they've been switched to the default names of the outlets and switches, but it's clearly the logs from my ATK and rollermat.

I don't know, I like this thing as a monitor an this wasn't a disaster but will I ever really be able to trust it again?

Naturally Apex support isn't available, figured I'd try the braintrust here but have a feeling I'll be sending something in. Question is, should I just ask for a refund from BRS and say hell with the headache?

Looking at the logs, the last thing that the unit recorded was running the ATK. It finished at 5:45:30. Could that be a clue to the bad module? It has a green light but maybe that doesn't tell us anything. The only other module I have is a DOS which I don't currently have running but it is still plugged in.

I’d start there. Unplug it for a day and see if your issues clear up. Those ATK seem to have a design flaw from all the bad reviews I’ve read about them. Dumping too much water and what not. Tunze 3155 if its bad and don’t think twice. Get a replacement if under warranty and sell it if that’s your problem.

Thanks I’ll give that a try. It’s only 3 months old so warranty shouldn’t be a problem.

Maybe I’m a glutton for punishment but after a hard reset yesterday, haven’t had any misbehavior from the Apex. Reprogrammed it with my old settings and going to see how the next few days go...

I’ve had the ATK bring down my system a few times. It’s retired now in favour of a stand-alone unit. Bloody thing nearly killed my tank dumping the whole RO supply in. Thankfully the tank was low so I got away with it. I hadn’t backed up for a while so had to reconfigure everything and I run a pretty complex setup so it was a real PITA.

Apex sent me out a new head unit under a warranty repair and that seems to have solved the problem. Customer service was good considering the shutdown.
