Aptasia, what really eats them?

My copperband and peppermints didn't touch aptasia. My copperband loves LRS and my peppermints love hammers... ;Meh

I use Peppermint Shrimp in 2 DTs and a QT and they have never failed. Apt's are always gone within a day or two.
But everyone seems to have different results.

i had a good infestation in my mix reef tank, i would say 100's of aptasia... i would do it all over again and spend the $90-100 or w/e it was on berghia nudi's ... i think i got 12 or 16 in my 85 gallon and within a month or 2 i could not see any aptasia... money WELL spent

Where did you get them?

i think i got lucky and they were on sale for like buy 3 get 1 free.... it does not look like they are still doing that

I had a horrendous aptasis infenstation in my 50 gallon awhile back. It was awful. I tried the berghia nudibranches, but I think my hermits or something ate them all before they did anything. My LFS told me to try a pearlscale butterfly. I had thought they weren't reef safe but she assured me my coral was safe ( soccer ball size Frogspawn, zoas, xenia). Within 3 days they were ALL gone! This had to be 6 years ago, and nothing ever showed up on those rocks again. The Pearlscale died out of nowhere within the year unfortunately

I have used a couple of Copperbands in two different reefs, spanning the last 17 years. The first one lived about six years and the second one is more than 10 years old now. Fortunately, aiptasia is one pest I haven't had to worry about for many years. I know results may vary, but I have always had luck with the CBBs.

One of these puppies did it for me! Problem solved— a Matted Filefish (sometimes sold under the name “Aiptasia Eating Filefish”). Best wishes. :)

Update. The CBB eventually stopped eating the Aptasia ( probably bc he's well fed on Black worms and LRS )and they got out of control. Because of the Melanurus I can't get Peppermint shrimp so I opted for Berghia. I was worried about the Melanurus going after the Berghia but I noticed he was buried in the sand before lights out and the Berghia come out after dark so I took the chance. Put 16 Berghia in my tank this past April and by July the tank was free of Aptasia. As long as there is nothing in the tank that will eat the Berghia they will get the job done.

So I'm about to embark on a berghia experiment, I have a Melanurus and Leopard wrasse, but hopefully they'll stay hidden. Jeff from Reeftown was very helpful, and he said the first time they taste a berghia they won't want another as they include the aptasia in their skin. I also have a few dozen in the overflow (big overflow, 6"x24"x27"), so I'm going to try and place some in there as well. For those that have had success, did you ever see a recurrence? I'm thinking somewhere in the sump they miss the aptasia and then in a year they come back?
