Aqamai KPS Problems

I recently bought 2 Aqamai KPS wavemakers but I have a problem with both.

I can connect to them via WiFi but neither show up in the app, so I can't control them. I suspect they are broken, but I find it odd that I have 2 with exactly the same problem. Has anyone else seen this and do you know if there is a way to fix it?

OK, I've got them working.

Apparently you need to have notifications and/or location services enabled (I'm not sure which of those 2 changes fixed it). This seems a bit odd to me but now they are working.

Yeah I was excited about getting mine, but I do not like mine, I am not a phone guy so I rather have a knob to turn, I found there is not much help with these units. Too bad I had high hopes.
