Hey guys,
In 5+ years in this hobby I have never used filter socks. With the new setup there will be a sock area just in case. Not sure if or how long I will use them but I wanted the option. So as I am looking to purchase and I notice there are a few different ones and of course different prices. What have you have better luck with? Do you buy the $5 ones, or spend the extra? Thanks!

I've been using the 200 micron's from BRS for years and haven't had a problem yet,out side of I haven't been able to train them to change and wash themselves yet lol !

I have used all filter socks out there and the best so far are the Vertex 100 micron.
Easy to clean and last longer because of that.
The 200 and 300 just lasted only 2 months and I change them out every 3/4 days.
I have four socks of 4" in my sump but a new custom 140 gallon sump is built with only two socks 7".
That gives me more filter capacity.

Do the vertex come with the plastic ring or the drawstring, nylon or felt? I wanted to go with 7" socks but was limited on space in the sump. Thanks for the reply guys!

I'm using BRS 200 micron felt socks. Decent price, well made, etc. I think the next time I order I'll try mesh.. Or go sockless..

They do come with a plastic ring, yes.
Are made from felt and are easier to clean imo than the nylon.
