Are we acclimating corals wrong?

Yes but I would never do that to a DT, makes sense if you have a QT, where you can watch it and determine if treatment is necessary.

Don't risk it QT it.

Looks accurate to me. I go one step further and float the bag for about 15 minutes. Mainly because I am getting buckets and stuff together. But they do go in a separate tank for several days to make sure they do not have pests and then I dip before going into the main system.
Of course this video is of acclimation and not the dipping process. After getting in about a million coral I have never seen acclimation being needed.

The article that went with the video suggests that dipping should only be done if there is a visible need. I like the idea but I do not like the idea of possibly missing something and letting it get in to a DT system.

realistically this is a good idea but at the same time I have my hesitations. I think it's safe to say that due to shipping and or driving home in cold weather that the coral is in shock by the time it reaches your house. however moving from one extreme to the other whether it is good or bad I believe can have its complications. even though the coral is technically going to a better place when it leaves the bag and directly into your tank it's still a type of shock that is happening to the animal. and as far is dipping goes, sometimes you can't see a problem necessarily but its there I would still dip just to be sure. this video goes against everything I know about acclimating coral. do you guys really just take from the bag and directly insert in the tank? How effective is this have you had any coral die because of it and the other question I had is when you compare this to drip acclamation is there any difference in coral health and recovery speed?

I do not have any 1st hand knowledge to share on the subject but the article suggests that getting the coral in to good water with a good current is more beneficial than a drip acclimation given the makeup of corals. As for me I am going to try this on my next purchase (in to a QT, not a DT)
