I have this unit for 2 weeks. So far 2 times it has failed and put in way more water then it should. Does anyone else have this problem and may know a solution? Where should the fill line be? I have it in the refugium part should it be in the return pump side? It shouldn't matter but please help i don't want it to throw off my salinity.

Do you happen to have the end of the supply lie lower than the water level of your reservoir?

No not at all but it filled up to the supply line wich is an inch or 2 above the water.

The pump will siphon unless you have a check valve or your outlet tubing is above your reservoir waterline.

A check valve will stop the reverse into my reservoir. I did just refill the reservoir but how could it siphon from a pump from the motor to my sump. It looks like once the water level hit the supply tube it did stop.

My resivor is a 10 gallon tank next to my 20 gallon sump. Do you think if the water in the 10 gallon is more then the 20 gallon it will siphon unless the supply line is higher then my water in the 10 gallon?

Three rules for ATO..
1. The exit end (where the water comes out)of the line going to your sump must be higher than both the water levels in your sump and your reservoir..(this prevents siphon into the sump)
2. The exit end of the line should never go into the sump water, the water should always fall into the sump..(this prevents a back-siphon into the reservoir)
3. Check valves can and will fail, they should not be used..
Helpful advice for ATO..
If possible try to design your sump and reservoir so that the sump will hold all the water in your reservoir, just in case the pump control sticks for some reason..

Rule number 2 I'm confused not into sump water but into sump? What do you mean?
