Just coming back to the hobby after being out for 15 years. Just bought a 40 gallon breeder and am slowly amassing Parts. I do have some questions though.
1) I would like to run a sump with cheato refugium but am torn between using a 10 or 20. I would like to store it in the cabinet Under the breeder but would also like room for a small qt tank. Should I do a 10 sump and a 10 at or 20 10 one way or the other? Would like the rafugium to grow copapods.

2) right now I plan to have some type of goby and tiger pistol, a blenny, 2 clowns a flame hawk, and a wrass. Added to the tank in that order. Also, plan on trying mixed sps and lps corals with 2 100w nicrew lights. What other fish with character can I add and in what order. I would like to add a green Mandarin goby or mandarin fish hence the copapods. Would this work? Because My tank would technically be 60 gallons could I add more fish? If so what would go well with the fish I have chosen already? Should I avoid any of the fish I've choosen?
There only things I have purchased so far is there 40 gallon tank and 35 lbs of dry rock. I will be getting more. I'm just trying to make a plan and stick to it before I go in. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Welcome! Glad you joined.

While pods can grow in your refugium, they reproduce faster in lower salinity and don't have to be hard. Just start with a bottle of @Reef Nutrition Tigger pods, picnic beverage container, powdered spirulina from any health food store or online, saltwater at 1.020, and bit of banana peel - lazy, easy pod culture:

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread under Forum > Member Aquariums and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:
