Lost 7 fish yesterday, lost power for 10 hours.
Weird thing is I have 50 fish and only 2 kinds died and
My 2 belus angels and 5 bartletts died

want to get a battery back up now
Any recommendations witch one is the best ,‘also would you run powerheads or it it better to do return pump

265 main tank 40 or so fish
2 80 gallon frag tanks
1 57 gallon refugium
200 gallon sump about half full
Skimz monster slimmer the biggest one
2 different pumps
One does main tank other does the rest
Powerheads mp60 main tank
Gyro frags

Depending on the types of powerheads that you have there are few different manufacturer specific battery packs that work well. In addition to that I would also highly recommend having a few battery powered air pumps on hand with some extra batteries as part of an aquarium emergency kit with instructions so that anyone in the house can deploy those air pumps even if you are not home. Then you have another backup to a pump battery backup for extra redundancy.

That's a lot of power for a single battery backup. You may want to consider the Ecotech battery backups for the powerheads. Depending on which particular return pumps you're running, you could use Ecotech battery backups for them.

I use a single 1500VA UPS for the powerheads, skimmer, and return pumps. The Apex sheds all non-essential loads. I also have a separate battery backup for one of the powerheads to keep water moving if the UPS dies.

So it’s better to have 2 backups

yes I should by the air pumps.
cheap and can help
I don't know if it's better even though there is redundancy, but if you have multiple smaller units, it can be cheaper to deploy these than a very large UPS system for the tank.

In New York, tank temperature loss in a power outage can also be significant. However, it takes a LOT more reserve power to run heaters than most people are willing to install.

Thanks for your help
Will probably just buy 2. One to work return pumps other to work powerheads on main tank
And buy battery powered air pump

In an emergency you could boil some water on a gas or propane stove, pour it in a hot water bottle, and float it in your sump. Just pay attention to a thermometer to know when to remove the heat source.
