What is the best ato in which you can use a separate pump (without an apex)?

I can't say the best as I don't know what else there is but I have been using a Tunze Osmolator for about 10 years and it has never given me a problem. You can get replacement motors for it and I have replaced that about 5 years ago.

I’ve been using the Hydor Smart Ato for a little better than a year now with an aqua lifter pump. No issues that I’ve noted. The alarm is loud enough to catch my attention if something is wrong with the pump or something causes the sump to have too much water in it.

Love the tunze ato too. Wish I can use a separate pump for it because I want to run a pump from an ato container in the garage.

AutoTopOff.com ATO. No micro processor mumbo jumbo, no proprietary pump, no flashy lights or buzzer, etc but not the prettiest of the lot.

Float switches are easy to change should they fail but never had to in the 15 years of using them.

Love the tunze

That is exactly what I do. The Tunze pump is 24vdc from memory so you could also use it to drive a relay.

The Tunze pump is running about 6 foot of head in my system.

I did the video on these two ATOs. I think the smart ATO is the best bet for you.

I had one issue with the tunze so it’s a very close second in my opinion.

I hope this helps.

You can always use this with the Tunze Osmolator and run your own pump.

If anyone is wondering, you don’t need the socket adapter. Running a Versa off the Tunze pump wires. Just spliced into the Versa’s power wire.

I'm new to ATO but recently set up spectrapure ultra precise ATO on my tank. It's incredible. Best piece of equipment you can buy. Worth the extra money. It simply works and it's great at its job.

Endress and Hauser 4 channel single input controller with an Endress and Hauser hydrostatic level sensor as the input. Connect one of the controller channels to an ice cube relay to energize a normally closed solenoid valve to fill my sump with 1/4” hysteresis. Hasn’t failed in over 15 years. Another channel is wired to a piezo buzzer that indicates a low level reading. Buzzer is loud and has alerted me to leaks in the past. But you could easily wire a pump to it instead of the solenoid. The ice cube relay can handle 10 amps. Using the solenoid direct instead of a pump, I don’t need an ATO tank. R/O water fills the sump directly.

Could you give a tutorial on how to do this? I was looking to do exactly this somehow but it looked like I needed ridiculously bulky adapters.

You just have to cut the wire of the power supply off for the versa. Then it’ll have two wires, you then plug that into where the 3155 ato pump would plug into. It has been working great.
