Best overflow option

I've got a 29 g. tanks w/ a filter and protein skimmer hanging on the back. I'd like to add a small sump.
My two questions are:
Whats the best option for an overflow since it isn't pre-drilled, and Id rather not break it down to drill a hole?
AND
Does anybody have the specs. and/or pictures off a small sump that the have made?

I have an eshopps too. Only problem with it is if you don't have enough flow going through it you need to mod it with a drill and a hole to keep the bubbles from forming in the top. I ended up having to do that to mine. Too much flow for one tube but not enough for both.
