I'm not entirely convinced that anyone actually has big bangs zoanthids. However, I do not doubt they exist somewhere in the world, but in aquaria I think they're a myth. Does anyone know of their existence in captivity, i.e. in someones system?

i dont know that one off hand but there is some odd stuff out there. one popular one people never seem to have seen is the one called The ******* i have no doubt it a real polyp however the picture people refer to is HIGHLY edited. in real life i would guess they look nothing like the picture

Check them out on zoaid.com, last page :)

ahh ok . yes i have no doubt there is somthing like that. lots of pics all look legit. why do you doubt that?? its not even very nice at all. what makes you think its not real??.see how on all the pics they are mized in with regular zoas? many times that is how this type of paly comes in. i get ton of zoas rock and there are always atleast a few very odd looking palys mixed in some of the rock. stuff like this or very similar comes in all the time.

Oh yes, I definately think they were in someones system at some point. But, I've never actually seen someone post pictures of them in their system. I just doubt that anyone houses them in their own aquarium. I like big bangs because of their pastel colors and unique shape. In the pictures they appear very, very, tiny, but cool.

it is a proto so they are not small. good luck in your quest. if i come across something like it any time soon i will let you know

Thanks elite reefs! And if anyone does in-fact have photos of bangs in their system please post them here and then I can relegate this myth to the known :)

Ya, I call BS on the *******, Serene Nova, and Electric Strawberry photos. If somebody wants to prove me wrong tho, hit me up with a PM and I've got some quite sweet trades available. :D

I can vouch for the Darth Mauls being just dang stunning in person though. Way better than most pix make them out to be.

I'm with you on the shiznits, but the electrics might be real, maybe. A company in ontario called wicked frags sell what they call serenes, which kinda look like them, but they are not in stock and at any rate, you don't want to order from Canada unless you want a big fine ~$400.00 from parks and fisheries.

I had some Electric Strawberries and after being open for weeks eventually melted away and the person who had them a member here lost his mother colony as well......The shiznits are real as well and where never really passed around and the few that were also melted in time not sure if any exist nowadays. Most of those were or could be seen on here back in the days of club-zoa....

Murfman: Fine would be assessed for importing live animals from another country without permits. You are certainly free to do so if you have import permits and go through the proper channels with Fish & Wildlife and US Customs (a major and expensive hassle, especially if you only have a few polyps to bring in).

I see Protopalys in a miriad of colors all the time. Usually hitchikers, like ER said. I saw some on a rock at work with similar colors, in pastel hues, just last week. About four of them on a rock with about 200 zoas. I'm sure these don't get posted in people's tanks simply because they don't have mass appeal/are common, so it's not one that gets bragged up much. Not to say they are ugly; I don't mind the look of them either, but just not as poppin' as many others. Someone who happens to like their random Protopalys just decided to post up a pick on zoaid and name it. There could easily be many more up on there if everyone felt inclined to name their Proto morphs.

Oh, believe me brother I'd love some electric strawberries also! That's cool about the shiznets being actual, because they definately look a little photoshopped, but I believe ya. I wouldn't mind getting a frag of the big bangs if someone actually has them, I think they're cool! You can buy from Canada with a CITES permit, you have to apply, wait to get cleared which can be an arduous process, I've heard, and pay per shipment. So, a one shipment CITES permit will run you ~$100.00. Pretty steep if you ask me, but I guess if your willing to figure it into the price of the specimen it doesn't matter.

These used to be my electric strawberries...RIP :(

I would give my firstborn child for a few polyps of these...also RIP :(

Those are really pretty! I rechecked the image on zoaid and yours do look like the origin photo, but maybe a little less intense. If you don't mind me inquiring, where did you get the strawberries?

So, maybe the answer to my original question is that people do in-fact obtain big bangs, but they simply melt away. Unless someone else can show me otherwise, I suppose that to be the case.
