Big bristle?

Look at this sizeable guy I just found in the sump.

Agreed. I know there are others. They will now have a shot to grow that big. It’s no longer in the sump.

That's a fire worm not a bristle.

The red flanking the sides and the white bristles are the two dead giveaways.

I would tend to agree based solely off the 'fluffier' bristles

Well that is concerning. For some reason I thought fire worms ate live things. How was this thing surviving and thriving in the sump

they are scavengers, the issues is their bristles have a nasty sting.

Use tongs. Their cheatae can pierce nitrile and latex.

they may be able to get through a single latex glove, so have some layering if possible (with a buffer of something). If you have forceps or something those would work well.

They are primarily predators, but are opportunistic feeders and can survive off of pods and algae in your sump.

You don't need to get them out ASAP since they are in the sump, you can go in with a flashlight and tongs and look around for a while.

Turns out I should look at the sump more often with a light at night lol. I think it has prob been growing for a year.
I’m just hoping I don’t see any negative impact from losing what was probably a great CUC member

It'll be fine, its a relatively small impact and others will take its place.
