This is not necessarily true, just a chance you take on anything in the reef hobby, that is what makes this hobby interesting , sometimes no telling what you will find ,I have found good surprises!Including Diesel:D

Not to break in on his post ( welcome to r2r) I'm reading the above and I don't see any mention of you "got to do the second cycle, comprising of diatoms and algae"
What's the difference between live rock and live sand but fresh salt water ?
I'm trying to figure this all out. I just may go back to fresh ( but I low the look of the salt tank how clean it looks and the shimmering of the light)
Sorry thank you

Just to clarify, that banding on the tentacle is typical of a Brittle Starfish......not Bristle Starfish! <--- @Diesel :D

Welcome to R2R! I started my 14g biocube not too long ago but hopefully I can give you some advice too.

Regarding the hydrometer, I'd put that aside and buy a refractometer. I find it to be a lot more accurate and it definitely helped me keep my salinity levels at bay, considering I have massive evaporation.

This hobby is all about patience. Definitely take the time to read about the nitrogen cycle, the water chemistry etc. Good luck!

Tank update added more rock for a total of 19 lbs also removed raw shrimp
