This morning I noticed something weird with my black cap’s fin. First of all you’ll notice in the picture it looks like the fin is torn which didn’t concern me as much. My bigger concern is where the fin attaches to its body. It looks swollen or infected, definitely not like the other side. I had him quarantined for 6 weeks before putting him in, as I’ve done with the other 3 fish in the tank. None of the other fish are showing any signs of anything. He is eating well and isn’t lethargic, flashing, swimming towards the top or really anything indicating he’s in distress. As for fishmates there is a coral beauty, Lubbock wrasse, falco hawkfish And a blood shrimp who likes to clean them all, except the wrasse. Any ideas or suggestions?

Looks like someone took a bite. Wouldn't surprise me if it was the Hawkfish or even the Lubbocks. I've seen my Lubbocks take a peck at some of its tankmates from time to time.

For injury a bath in methylene blue helps initially for any open sores, cuts, tears, etc. But for a longer term treatment for mild infection, a 60-90 minute bath in Ruby Reef Rally works very well as it has both antiseptic and antibiotic qualities. 1 tsp per gallon of a temp matched saltwater. Aerate the water before beginning and can continue during.

For more severe infections any good antibiotic works well: Kanaplex, Furan2, etc. Sulfaplex in particular seems to work well on fins, tails.
