Thanks for the responsesIt sometimes can get interwoven in the tentacles and look like it’s coming from the tentacles when in fact it’s coming out of the mouth.
Also if it was BJD, with a hammer, the entire coral head would be infected and you’d lose the entire coral.
If it smells like a rotting corpse, it is brown jelly, if not probably some discharge, give it good flow and it should be fine, I see no tissue recession. If this isn’t the most accurate response, the smell test for me has almost been 100% effective. Even with a regular bacterial infection a coral will smell bad.Smell itIf it smells like a rotting corpse, it is brown jelly, if not probably some discharge, give it good flow and it should be fine, I see no tissue recession.
I don’t think it’s BJD, def just poop or the hammers color. I had a hammer turn brownish like that due to lack of light and it was forced to morph its color a little to survive! If this isn’t the most accurate response, the smell test for me has almost been 100% effective. So I should have added because it was definitely important info. This was a frogspawn I picked up from a local reefer and it took a nice 1.5hr drive home. It came out of the bag looking like that and I proceeded to drip acclimate it. Only about 20-30 minute drip as our parameters were near identical. I did a dip in coral rx and then some iodine to be safe. I took the advice that it's not bjd and put it in a low flow area to monitor it.I don’t think it’s BJD, def just poop or the hammers color.
