yes I just purchased brs rock, now do I need to cure the rocks before I add it into my tank and tank is 2yrs old or can I just put them in right away..??..well if you cure how long it would be..?? Thank you.!!

You shouldn't have to cure it. It should be clean from organics and not cause a spike. The only thing that should happen to it is that it week turn into live rock in a month or 2.

I rinse the powder off and put it straight in. Now if you only have a little bit of live rock and put a hundred pounds all at once you may end up with some extra ammonia but still I think it would be a very mild cycle.. maybe none at all. But I would still put a little at a time.

It depends on which rock you're referring to. BRS carries several types of dry rock, most of which DOES need to be cured before using. The pukani and Fiji in particular contain a significant amount of dead organic matter. Put it in a container of salt water with a pump and let it run for a few weeks before adding to a tank. You'll notice the smell within 24 hours and will then be thankful you didn't add the stuff directly to your tank. Good luck!

That is exactly what I had pukani rocks,so few weeks huh..well thanks for all the inputs guys..!!!

i have always just gave it a good rinse to get any loose stuff off and then into the tank. never had any issues. I have always bought the reef saver rock cause I just think it looks best so i am not sure about any other style rock they carry

I have used Fiji rock that sat in a trashcan in my barn for 6 years. I blasted each piece with a water hose a few times, let it dry and threw it in my tank. I had no issues with it.

First BRS Pukani and now the Reef Saver, I've cured both for several weeks before adding to my new setups. During the curing process I do add bacteria in a bottle. Within 2 weeks my cycle is done, 100% pest free! :)

Yep. Put it in a container and let it run for 24-48 hours and the smell alone will let you know about the organic matter. Test the ammonia until it spikes and drops, then nitrite and nitrate...

Im not positive but I'm almost certain the reef saver is mined on land from old reefs and contains minimal dead organic matter. The pukani and fiji are actually dead live rock. My pukani actually had pieces of dead sponge, coralline, and other critters.

So maybe i just add slowly one at a time or twice in between weekly and wonder that would works..
