Just wondering what everyone's thought on this was. Seems any time I order something and it comes in as a single, I have a pretty ridiculous mortality rate. But if it comes with 2 or more they always seem to do fine. The exception I've seen is from PZ or Gonzo, and I'm guessing its because their shipping is immaculate.

Thoughts? Is it just me?

No true...if the frag is completely healed, I don't see why it won't make it thru shipping. In fact I have shipped many single polyp frags and they all made it.

I only get my zoas and palys from Travis at planet Zoa. Never had a problem with his stuff so I just stick with him!

But single polyps should be perfectly fine if healed and put into the right conditions.

usually the singles are not healed and attached...its just superglue holding them....and when they expand and contract they release from the glue...

Ive had single polyps last for weeks, plenty of time to heal, and still lost them. I just try to avoid it if possible.

i have had the exact same problem .

but the polyps that i get from gonzo do just fine.

For me it has been hit or miss there are times that a 1 polyp frags does really good and some times I loose the in a few day can't figure it out.

Most corals do better as small colonies. Not saying you can't get a single polyp to grow. Just in general the more the merrier

If the person who frags it lets it heal and makes sure its healthy no problem. If they have bad technique and send it to you before they even know its gona survive then good luck.

I've never had a problem buying single polyps but I always try to get at least 2 polyps so it's more secure. I will only buy a single polyp if it's only offered like that from the seller or if the price is a little too high.

In my opinion a single polyp frag is not fully healed until it starts having baby polyps (bumps), that is not to say the polyp won't survive, I just don't consider it fully healed until it starts growing again.

I've found that the bigger colonies I've bought tend to grow much faster. The ones I've bought with just a few polyps do ok, but seem to adjust a little more slowly.

12g Nanoreef. Zooanthids, Ricordia, Star Polyps, Acans and two clownfish. CF Lighting, 75% actinic blue, 25% 10,000k white.

80%of my frags were single polyps and as long as they were healed they made it ok. Fresh cuts a lot of times would come off the plug because i had a lot of flow.

Also a frag of 1 polyp becomes 20 polyps faster than a frag of 10. I dont know why single polyps grow a lot faster than colonies.
