I have a geo 612 calcium reactor, I use an apex in line solenoid the psi on the regulator is about as low as I can get it at about 7-8 psi but every time the solenoid opens it sends a burst of co2 into the bubble counter on the reactor..is this a faulty regulator?

I think something is missing in your set up. I never have seen a set up using that kind of solenoid in the calcium reactor. How are you control the bubbles that enter to the CR?
The solenoid opens when the ph increase on the chambers, but you need to supply the co2 in small quantity of co2 (bubbles), but you only are open and close the supply with that solenoid.

There is a needle valve where the tubing comes out of the regulator...it is set at 1 bubble/second..I’m thinking that it’s either a faulty regulator or that pressure is building in the tubing with the solenoid being away from the regulator like it is

I just check my co2 and I have my low pressure side at 6 psi. I could not find the spec of your solenoid. How do you set up your bubbles?

Could you change the position of your solenoid ?
Tank+regulator+solenoid +needle valve
I think the problem is because you have your needle valve before the solenoid am this is producing a big pressure and when your apex opens it, you have all this gas in your CR.

The solenoid has 1/4” tubing fittings so not sure how I would get that one before the needle valve..have have a regular solenoid that attaches to the regulator and uses a plug in rather than the apex one uses a 24v on the apex..may have to switch back

If you reduce the distance between the solenoid and the needle valve. To avoid all the gas waiting in the line before the solenoid open. If you check the co2 regulators with solenoid, this is always before the needle valve.
