Chalice FAD

Yep, it's a sad state for the hobby when someone shows a picture of a "mother colony" and it's sitting on a frag rack. So many people that follow the fads in the hobby strongly have nothing more than glorified frag tanks as a display.

My tank resembles a frag tank but its only 14 months old. I got out of reefing 20 years ago, but that is because it was troublsome-Sadly my largest chalice is 2 inches, but I can't afford a 5 inch BGM-LOL

Has anyone every taken into account that many people that are buying chalices now will not be in the hobby in 5 years? Possibly, even myself. There is such a large turnover in the reefing commuinty as I know that I have come and gone more than once. Just a little food for thought about what fuels a fad; there is always the next guy who covets what someone else already has ;)

But its those people who we get great deals from-LOL

dibs!

just kidding mark -you gotta stick around.

i hope to stay in a long long time. i get the feeling that i am committed for life. i've always loved the ocean, reefs, and nature in general. unless i go broke and can't pay for the energy and maintenance, i don't see myself going anywhere.

I've noticed the average go for someone taking a stab at this hobby is about 1-2 years (at least in here San Diego.. that first summer is always an eye opener). If you get past that most people have at least one foot in the water at any one point in time. You're hooked on some level life for life :D MUHAHAAHAAH!

I hope I'm still in the hobby in 5 years, with an even better and bigger display full of chalices (amongst the SPS domination of course!). Personally, I love chalices because they look amazing and the variety of colors out there is so vast it's mind boggling. I think that's another thing that draws a lot of SPS collectors to chalices. Fads come and go in all facets of life, and it just so happens in the reef hobby there is always going to be a new hit coral. It's always going to be apart of the hobby so we as reefers better get used to it.

Man honestly I have never been into chalice corals. I mean don't get me wrong, there are hardly any other corals as beautiful as a 200+ eye actual chalice colony covering the sand. That is beautiful.

One of my dislikes are that I have never had much luck with them. Oh yea and the other one is that I am so far behind in the game that there would be no way to afford to get into it. Well thats a good thing! LOL!

Ok maybe it's just jealousy talking......
