Hi there all! I'm new to this forum. I guess this is my first question. I have these two chalice that I have kept near the top of the tank ever since I got them around 8 months ago roughly. They are doing fine but growth is very slow compared to what I read about others. Just wondering if I should move them down? I'm running 4 T5 HO. I've added a picture hopefully you can tell the distance from the lights and chalice. I don't feed them cause I never see their tenticals out, now if there catching food from when I'm feeding the others that's another story and I guess I miss it. Anyhow should I move them or let them be? There is growth but very little.
I also got another chalice few days ago and I've placed him on the sand for now I want to place him but lower or around the middle of the tank to see if maybe they grow faster? If not if place them near my other two to create a mixture look.
Anyhow if anyone can let me know if I should let them be where they are or should I try to change them around for faster growth...
Thanks!!!!

I run LED lighting and mine are low just above sand. Lights are about 12 inches above water and tank is 21 in high. I see growth weekly not extreme growth but definite expansion. I feed at night when they have great polyp extension from the eyes.

I always place them mid to low in the tank and then move them around depending on how they are doing. Yours seem to be doing ok though. The only negative thing about having them in the sand is when some debri gets kicked up on them.

I have my one and only chalice on the sandbed of my 75g so roughly 19inches from my 4x54w t5 fixture. You generally wont see the sweeper tentacles until the lights are off for a bit as they are more nocturnal feeders ime. During the day the chalice is bumpy looking and the colors are spectacular, and at night it smooths out and a bunch of sweepers come out, mine has 2-3 eyes only but I see 5-8 sweepers on any given night. Try getting a micro type food, brightwell aquatics sells one called microvore which I've had good success with. Every other day I'll squirt a little in prob about 1mL about 20 mins before lights out to give it time to circulate around the tank, I notice when I do this my chalice has more sweepers out than when I dont could just be coincidence though. I have only had it about a month now, so havent noticed much new growth size wise, but have def noticed the eyes becoming more prominent.

I feed chalices at night when mouths are wide open - few hours after lights out. Im my tank, they eat just like the acans. They will take to brine and pellets and dry micro food such as reef chilli and others.

As others mention, move chalices around depending on how they are doing.

mine is about midway up the tank (roughly 6" from surface) under LED.. your's look good though (just beware if you upgrade lighting to something more powerful, as that is really close to the surface).. some chalices grow faster than others.. also, mine loves nom noms, and it grows noticably faster when I feed it regularly (sometimes I get on a feeding kick)...

diffrent chalices can handle differnt amounts of light. some thrive in high light and others can stand high light. just keep a eye on them if they start looking stressed move them lower
