Chris' Reef

Good stuff Chris! The vortec isn't going to push as far as the maxi's... the flow should be quite a bit wider though. I have an older version, so I use Reef Crest mode on my tank.

Stopped into my LFS again yesterday, racks were jammin pretty good, amazing selection of acros! So I snagged 5 gems for sure! :) SunnyX mille, a sweet pink mille, 2 BAAAAD deepwaters that finally made if from the display to the sale racks, and a piece of ReefRaft Poison Ivy..... Can't beat the selection thats for sure! A couple need to color up a little still but to me thats part of the fun.

I also started running carbon in a DIY reactor to try to clear up the water clarity a little more.

A little bit better FTS phone shot:

Yeah, there was something definitely not right with it tho, until lastnight it was severely under performing. Now it is performing much better but still sounds like my neighbor is running his weedwacker 24/7. I have spent hours tweeking and aligning this thing and that isn't the problem.....

While I was messing with it trying to get it straightened out I found this.....Its kinda hard to see but here is a pic I took with the phone lastnight to try to show the groove that was created in the magnet on the dry side by the tiny metal shavings from the screw that holds the motor/magnet inplace being slightly stripped on the dry side....

The sound has gotten alittle better since I removed the tiny metal pieces from the magnet, but it is still present and you can feel the magnet wobble when it is running and you hold the dry side. I went up to RP and felt 3 of the 5 there run and only the OLD one on the zoa tank feels even remotely close to the way this one does, the others are definitely alot smoother running.... My Feb.11 2013 pump shouldn't feel like a 4-5yr old pump lol

I would send it in!

I wasn't happy with my mp 10 either but i let it run a couple days on the green constant setting and it has quieted down alot.

Still on the fence about the flow also

You have a very nice tank also!

Called Ecotech earlier told the CS rep what was going on and he said it sounded like a dry side issue. He wanted to just send me a new dry side (which meant I had to take the driver apart, disconnect the old dry side and rewire the new one in... which not out of my realm but not something I want to do on a brand new warrantied nearly $500 pump... my luck somehow it would get screwed up lol), so I reminded him I haven't even had it for a week.... Changed it to a whole new unit pretty quick after that :)

I haven't received an email confirmation that they were going to ship a new one yet like I thought he said I should so we shall see.

Tank lookin' good, the corals started to grow that's a good sign. Sorry to hear about your MP40 issue.

Thank you :) Out of all my tanks so far this one has quickly become my favorite and its just the begining :)

Very nice!

Thanks Rev!

Thank you. Yeah it has only been a couple months since I even set this tank up, so far so good thats for sure! Pretty much everything has started to base down nicely, and getting a little bit of new growth on several pieces and the colors are starting to come back on the ones I made the mistake of using revive on. Everything I have dipped in bayer has held color the entire time tho which is nice.

I think they will make it right Chris, that is the one consistent thing with them.

You are getting good growth for sure, I'm starting to see a little, but not the encrusting like that. :D

This might be a stupid question but for the acro did u cut them off the frag plug or rock they came with then glue them on to ur lr for nature looks ??

Glad to hear EcoTec is taking care of it.

Me too :) lol

Yeah I am sure they will, if I don't get an email today I will probably give them a call tomorrow and see whats up just to make sure it got put through.

The growth is partly attributed to my LEDs, and partly to my dosing.... driveway salt and baking soda in a reef does make a difference LOL

Not a stupid question at all. I do cut about 95% of the plugs off and glue the coral directly to the rock. Not so much for the looks as the plugs will get encrusted overtime and not be visible, but for pest control. I dip everything that comes in, and generally cut the plugs off as AEFW's like to lay eggs on them..... I get everything from pretty good sources so if I get something that was encrusted I put the plug in my nano, redip it at a later date and leave it in there to grow out for a back-up piece/ piece to frag from ;) I think the only piece I have in my DT that I didn't take the plug off of is the newly aquired ReefRaft Poison Ivy (pics at a later date when it is fully colored up), and thats just because I didn't want to disturb it more then I needed to. I scraped the plug with a razorblade and dipped and inspected it very good tho before putting it in ;)

If I was putting zoas in my tank (or anything else that I'm not overly fond of) I would just allow the plugs to go in, but I don't like to take chances with AEFW!

I was asking about the solar flare. Nice choices, btw.

I'm not sure but he might have a couple more pieces available still. If not the bleeding nasuta he had is similar but pink w/red tips and still a hot piece ;)

What new corals did you get? :D

I picked up the TBG Solar Flare, and a Hellboy Acro from The Blue Glow.... a quality R2R sponsor :)

I need to work on my camera skills before I even try to show pics of these pieces tho, they are super hot and my pics will do them no justice! :(

Yeah....I got a message in to Andy about some things. Since my issues of a few months ago, things are nice and stable, ready for a minor investment I think. Got a few things prearranged for the swap this weekend, too. Should have a few nice frags by Sunday night. Are you going to make it?
