Good day Ladies and Gentlement, I just experienced a very bad situation with FedEx. I had some coral ship for overnite delivery which was suppose to arrive at 10:30am this morning, but somehow it was stuck at Memphis Tn. at 5pm today. It will made to is final destination 2morrow morning which I doubt the coral will make it. So my question is will FedEx be accountable for this or I would have to eat the cost? I have also purchased $500 on insurance.
I heard carrier doesn't guarantee live fish or corals is that true?

Greatly appreciated!

yeah they dont cover losses on live animals
also, if this delay was caused by "weather" related issues, which they'll say it is even if it isnt, then you wont even get a return on the shipping

yeah, they said they are willing to cover the shipping.
So next question is am I obligation to replace this coral to the buyer?

That depends on the sale of the coral and the agreement. Many sellers will cover the loss but I would say that most will not. Myself, I sell a lot of coral and I do not cover the loss due to delayed shipping. Shipping coral is a small risk to the buyer and seller. Therefore, the responsibility has to be shared and a line drawn on which responsiblities go where.

I feel bad for the buyer if no replacement was issue,
but then again, I don't want to take the whole lost.
Is not a cheap coral either. :confuse:

It sounds like that Memphis depot for fedex really sucks! Didnt we just read about somone elses fedex horror last week? I just got my new laptop delivered by fedex. It left China, went to Alaska, and i had it in my hands at 10 am the next morning. I've only dealt with them a couple times.

Yeah, mine got stuck in Memphis for 4 days... Half of the frags lived, though. Lost most of the SPS and a few mycedium, but the setosa is still rockin:). It's been a little cooler this week, though, but you never know. Hopefully, the receiver will give it a shot (if not DOA) and it may be fine. Better cold than hot (within reason).

I feel your pain, I had a hold at location package arrive at my doorstep in 20 degree weather instead of the hold at location. It sat there for 4 hours. Inside it held a AE setosa, FragFarmer echinata, LE undata, Skittles granulosa, garf bansai, and some freebies. Everything died and the package was entered into the system as a hold at location, they dropped the ball on that. Very frustrating trying to get my point across with fedex. The kind soul who sold me these frags replaced them and put me at ease. Fedex did replace the shipping fee after much gripe. If I had to choose i would go ups everytime, have had multiple problems with fedex.

Most coral can survive an extra day in the box if they're well packed. Have the purchaser send pics of any dead loss so you can work something out. Many retailers refund the purchase price of the corals as a credit with them. It keeps their money with you the seller, but still gives them opportunity to get some corals as well.

Maybe its location? I have had 100's of fedex coral shipments over the years and never had even one go bad. I take that back, there was one, but there was also the worst snow storm we ever had in Oklahoma that caused it.

I always replace the coral even if the package is delayed or lost. I never feel right making someone pay for something they did not get. I know it was not your fault either but at the end of the day you are out a coral and they are hard earned money. The risk should never fall with the customer IMO. I am able to do this as i am a business. It may be a different call for you as a hobbiest. I just say it is the cost of doing business and factor in that it will happen.

A big THANK YOU from a customer!

whenever crap like this happens for me i just refund the cost of the corals and keep shipping cost so both people aren't out too much
i think thats the fairest way, i mean youre not just buying huge chunks of corals and just cutting them up right?
you must be growing them so they are technically excess and if you can get money for great and if not then whatever

All reputable shops or online vendors will not expect you to eat the corals normally your out only the shipping but not all the time I know we don't.If FedEx screws up we either replace or give store credit.
