I know some people us vinegar to clean pumps and other equipment but I have read that there is a better way to clean equipment but can’t remember what they use.
Can anyone help?

Citric acid is supposed to be better for cleaning equipment, especially things such as vortechs. I’ve had issues using vinegar on vortech power heads in the past and don’t use it anymore.
Bulk Reef Supply sells citric acid on their website.

Yes that’s what I was thinking citric acid as well. I have heard citric is better as well

You can get citric acid in small amounts from Walmart or any other store that has a canning section. Stuff works great but definitely can get pricey if you don’t buy in bulk. I imagine you could find non brs bulk CA from a supply house for fairly cheap.

The recommended ratio uses a lot of CA but just soaking parts will have any kind of hard calcification just dissolve. I recently cleaned a flipper that had sat in an abandoned tank for 6 months. You wouldn’t touch this thing with your bare hands. Just left it overnight and in the morning it looked brand new.

I use muriatic acid from Home Depot. Half cup per gallon of water does the trick. Soak for 20 minutes and rinse well. I keep the solution in a sealed container and reuse it several times before making new solution.
