I am new to the saltwater side of the hobby. I recently bought 2 ocelaris clown fish, they were housed in a tank with about 1o others. Ive had them in my tank for about a week and one passed, would it be ok to get another clown and hope they pair or am I stuck with one?

Yes you can get another clown.
Were both clowns the same size or was one bigger than the other?
Did they fight a lot or did they get along?

I am assuming that I would need to get another ocelaris, should I try and get one that came from the same group, should i shoot for the same size as the one that is alive, and how would you go about adding it to the tank?

There was a slight size difference, they seemed to be getting along well. The smaller one is the one that didn't make it...

Thank you for the reply

I would get one from the same "group" if you can.
If the fish are still young and none of the have figured out who is going to be the female yet then you should be ok to pick any fish.
The fish will fight a little until they settle their differences and figure out who is female. Once they do you will have a bonded pair.
Was there a reason why your fish died?

I am not sure why it died, water parameters are in line. For a few days they were fine and staying close to each other. Then for a few days the little one would venture off, then go back when he got spooked. I am feeding mysis shrimp twice a day(cube is cut up into 8 pieces) and have a automated feeder with pellets(4 or 5 make it in twice a day), I am confident it was eating.

Just asking a few questions here..
Is your tank cycled?
How old is your tank?
You want to make sure you find out if there is any issues with your tank or if it was just a sick fish.

Ive had the tank up for about 2 months now, I started with about 20# of the reef project 2.0 rock, aragonite live sand, and the biospira bacteria. Let the tank go with that for about a month. I then added a six line wrasse, about a week later I added the clowns. Like I said water parameters were in line

Good deal...just making sure everything was good to add fish.
Do you know if your fish had ich?
You may have just had a sick fish.
If your other fish appear healthy and are eating well, I would get another fish and add it in.

I am Going to be out of town for a few weeks, do you think that the timing between now and when I get back would cause more issues adding the new clown?

Personally I would not add a fish to my tank unless I can watch it for at least a week.
This is just me being very careful with my tank as I have quite a lot of time and money invested into it.

I would at least give it a few days to make sure the fish will be ok with the other fish in your tank.

Thats what I was thinking as well, I just didn't want the risk of it being to large of a time gap to create issues...
