Co2 scrubber

another issue the only thing I have changed in my tank or to the tank is I switched brands of salt due to inconsistency. I went from rc to fritz.

The salt would not make a difference. Some salts have more bicarbonate (aka baking soda) that would make the PH and all go up. Have you been testing your big three (alk, Ca, Mg)? Running lower alk will have an effect on the PH.

i'm running the air pump test. right now.

Just out of curiosity, what is your Alk and Ca levels at the moment and how do you dose for those two parameters? Trying to figure out factors that may be affecting your depressed pH levels.

@P-Dub
Did you plumb your skimmer outside before you added the scrubber? Your Apex is the before and after of you plumbing it outside then adding the scrubber (meaning you changed the media)?

I’ve always wondered this. My skimmer is plumbed outside and I get 8.15 max. I’d love to get 8.3. For me to add the co2 scrubber would be a cinch if it’s effective enough. I have one sitting in the closet

Can I have the model number of the skimmer, I can look at the skimmer and see if we can come up with how to add a air line to see.

My story was I had a RSL i5 skimmer rated for 80 gallons water volume with a needle wheel. The skimmer work well in the beginning, my guess is as my system matured the skimmer just could not handle the bio load. Again this is my guess. The pump for the skimmer died and getting parts was looking difficult and I needed a skimmer. I went with a Red Sea skimmer and the rest is history.

One other thought, I use a Apex to track my PH. The probes are in the skimmer section of my sump. I changed the skimmer opening/intake back to where I had it before I made some changes to how the skimmer was sitting in the sump. The inlet is now back were the flow is from the return and is not away from the flow. This could also have something to do with my PH being higher.

My real question and I am sorry if you covered this before, what are you testing your PH or getting your reading?
My apex probes are in the sump area where water comes back into the sump section, it has good flow into the sock and skimmer section. Red Sea Reefer 170 sump. Good placement?

That’s where mine are too. Seems to be the best spot.

Most systems have their probs in that section.
Most skimmers have prob holders in that section ad well.
I had my probs in that section, yet still reading was never absolut and dependable.

I think we are all consistent with our probe placement:). I am just wondering if the placement of the intake makes a difference on the PH reading?

It would if you dose alk before the probe, but only for a minute or two before the alk mixes in with the water. My pH spikes for all of about a minute.
