Alrighty folks. What colors cause algae growth in sand bed I’ve read all sorts of threads to not use green red and whites. Or that whites promote the most algae growth and that reds do as well. I don’t like the washed out blue tank like I used to I enjoy seeing the beautiful colors of my fish and corals but I also came across so nuisance algae that I’m not to worried about cause it’s only behind my rock work and small patches like a diatom bloom. But however. What spectrums do I not use to avoid algae ?! Everyone will have a different perspective I’m currently not using any red or green but whites peak max is 40% For maybe an hour.

The younger a tank is, the higher chance you have of algae growth, no matter WHAT spectrum you’re running. That will be the primary problem most run into. A mature and stable tank with lots of coral mass will just not grow algae much comparatively. My whites peak at half the strength of my blues, and I am actively working them up to equal strength. Just have to go slow as to not shock the corals from intensity.

Refugiums, carbon dosing, and GFO will help limit algae growth through excess nutrients early on until you start getting a lot more filter feeders and sponge growth naturally. More coral helps as well.
