Considering re-aquascaping...

Here's a quick shot of it, a little happier with it, but with it being a smaller tank more elaborate rock structures are harder to accomplish. This is also taken with the new ReefBrite 50/50 strip I put on it as well. Thanks for asking Reefer!

What y'all think?

check the Coral and Reefs Usa 2012 premier issue, it should have a really good articel on aquascaping and one uses a tubular approach that i had not thought of before.

Looks great !! I like the scape you have lots of layers for corals . It's always frustrating by worth it in the end

Thanks Reefer. Now I just need some more room for water (I have bigger tank syndrome bad!)

I know exactly what ur going through on the scape I had a similar thread about a month or so ago. Don't kill me but ima be honest. The new scape still lools like rocks thrown in there. When I was doing this I figured a cpl tips to making a better looking rock structure and that is to..

1. Keep the rocks off all the walls looks better and easier to clean ur sides.
2. Try forming at least 2 island bases then if u wish libk em together with bridges.
3. And this one sounds corney but let the rocks stack themselves what I mean us when rocks touch try making those areas look like they fit together like a puzzle match thecurves and the rocks will look like they belong together. U might not get the exact structure u had in mind but it will look more natural which u will be happy with.

Hope this makes sense and was helpfull.

You're right it does look that way, but like I said I'm very limited with what I can do. Its hard to reach in there, not too many big rocks, the tank isn't very deep... Wish I was better at this stuff, it was starting to frustrate me a little and I was trying to reduce the amount of stress put on the corals and the system. Thanks for being honest with me Mike, its appreciated.

Bknapp this may get you in trouble but ideas in petco in Bellevue Saturday and they had the 1$ per gallon sale. Might be worth a call !
If you do get a bigger tank don't be afraid to DIY. I am not the most useful DIY guy ( actually I'm probably really bad ) but I made it through drilling ,plumbing and DIY LEDs thanks to the guys and gals here.

Pretty sure the $1 per gallon sale was over on Saturday...I was trying to get another 40 before it ended, but no one had them in stock. I actually got 2 of them when the sale first started, but I used them to upgrade my snakes' vivariums.

bknapp, I like the new 'scape a lot better... The flat pieces are a plus - I have a lot of rounded, boulder-type pieces that are very difficult to stack. Usually my method is similar to what gmoney said earlier... let the rocks stack themselves. I find that usually if I put one rock on another and move it around a little, turn it on it's side or backwards, etc. that eventually I'll find the sweet spot where it will sort of "lock" into place with the other rock. If I want to create a shelf, I might hold a flat rock so it overhangs the ones below it and then use a couple heavier rocks to hold it down. Just go for a solid structure that's not going to collapse when a snail wedges itself between your rocks and glass. Hopefully, by this time next year no one will be able to see your rocks with all the coral on them anyway. :)
