fish only with live rocks, or reef? if fish only, you can get away with an external filter. Otherwise, be sure to deep clean the tank and don't reuse equipment and deco, as it might have been contaminated by copper based meds. overflow box, sump with refugium and skimmer, and return pump, and you should be good to go.

I thought about using my 55 gallon freshwater water tank because I already had everything I needed or so I thought. I was wrong. I googled images of tanks that didn’t have a sump to hide all the add-ons you will want and need and I noticed all I could see was the filters, skimmer, uv sterilizer, hang on refrigium and so on.
It didn’t have the minimalistic look at all. When you are standing up and looking at the tank that’s all I could see. If you are good with that then you should be good but I ended up getting an all in one which is sleek looking.

But I absolutely agree with rubertoe93. It is inevitable, you will want to upgrade and have a more efficient system.

I bought the JBJ 45 AIO and I am already regretting it. I want a larger tank with a sump and all the bells and whistles hidden in a cabinet with lots of room to add on. Plus lots of room for the fish I want but can’t have. Now I have a $1000. aquarium (not including the coral and fish) and it is beautiful, don’t get me wrong but I want a bigger one. I can’t justify or afford a bigger tank now.

So I have to save up and convince my husband to make the jump. Then I am left with finding a way to get my money back on the JBJ.

You will want to upgrade, it just happens. I thought it wouldn’t happen to me but sure enough it did!! It has only been 6 months but I started dreaming about upgrading 3 months

Just like you can’t get only one tattoo

Reefing is addictive and I love it
