That is the big flaw in my setup also. I just don't have the capability to QT corals yet. I think I am going to set up a 55g in the near future as a coral/invert QT.I've never QT corals before so I don't have any lights for that.
I'll have to buy something for the 20g long. What would you suggest for mostly SPS? Something cheap, but something that will still do the job. It's going to be a long 72 days.
Also would I still need to run the HOB with media? I probably won't need any meds. I've already got a well-seeded sponge ready to go.
Thanks for all your replies! It's really appreciated. [emoji227]
They have a marine one, you should be running real bulbs anyways, I was simply linking the fixture.
very nice!My coral qt

Might be / might not be. Whats the price of 70 dollar hob when a single frag here is bout 50 bucks. This is for your corals right? Is a HOB with media necessary?
Id probably trust a rugged extension cord over an outlet. You can inspect the cord. Outlets are black boxes.I already have one still up and running on my QT. I just need that outlet for the light. I'm out of outlets and don't trust any more extension cords. I will have to unplug the HOB. Corals will be fine right? I'll just do water changes. Not that hard.
HOB's are nice because it makes it easy to add media and provide mechanical filtration. Not really sure what media you would need to add to a frag tank. Live rock, a powerhead, heater and light is all you should need imo.I already have one still up and running on my QT. I just need that outlet for the light. i picked up a used 14g cube bare bones for $30 and had an old light. I just use the pump in it.Might be / might not be. Whats the price of 70 dollar hob when a single frag here is bout 50 bucks.
Not much if you ask me.
Your coral QT should be as stable as your display.

Live rock and sand. Added an ato.
It's kind of interesting to do because as I don't feed for fish is hard to keep any nutrients in the tank
T5I can't afford LEDs right now, so just wondering what type of bulb? 10k? Or 6500k? I like the sps and large stonies. I have the 20g long so it's shallow in dept. the light would have to sit on top of the tank. Don't want to bleach.
Look used for sure. The old non lenses model of the current orbit would probably be fine in that tank. Or some t5 as a lot of folks are getting away from them.I can't afford LEDs right now, so just wondering what type of bulb? 10k? Or 6500k? I like the sps and large stonies. Hey brew why is this???Unfortunately, yes you should QT coral for at least 72 days from a fish perspective.
There is a positive though. As long as you never have fish in your invert QT the clock for each piece doesn't reset.
Once an individual coral has been in QT for 72 days it can safely go into your DT even if you have been steadily adding coral for the entire 72 days. Just don't let any QT water get into your DT.
