Corals lacking color?

possible reasons why...depends on the system and what you have for nutrient reduction

Well ive never understood why suck high alk is a lot of salts and thats why i use red sea. The ocean doesnt run high alk so why should our tanks and corals be expected to run good at higher levels. Imo its the same as running high temp tank or high nutrient tank. The corals dont like it.

My alk is consistently 12dkh. How do you get it down? I know 12dkh is not out of control but its pushing the limit IMO.

Water change with low alk salt or let the corals naturally use it down. I like red sea regular works great mixes fast and clean and made from evaporated sea water

My alk seemed to drop after running HC GFO and getting my phosphates lower.

Ive heard of people having lower alk from gfo and dropping phos. Ive never had this happen and maybe its just a result of growth taking off and using more alk with lower phos. Dunno could be the gfo i guess but im not sure why it would absorb alk?

I run Red Sea regular and love it! I stay around 7.5 dkh. I have some IO I run in the pony tank and I hate the stuff! Doesn't mix nearly as well as the Red Sea does.

I used it with no issues when I overdosed my tank once. It comes down with no problems.
So adding 1/11,000 of the water volume as this acid will drop alkalinity by 1 meq/l (2.8 dKH).

You want a drop of 13-7 = 6 dKH, or 2.1 times that amount, so you'd add 1/5,100th of the water volume.

13 gallons ~ 49 L

1/5100 of 49 L = 9.6 mL

Aerate the tank well after this to burn off excess CO2, as dosing this will drop your PH also.

So on a 75g tank that would be 57.6ml. Wow that number shocked me. Should I do something more than have my 2 PHs pointed up at the surface for aeration?

I didn't, that should do ya, some dont' aerate that well, so its advised to do so. I dosed 1700mls, and that only knocked it down 2dKH
