Hi all,

Just curious if any of you have noticed CP impacting the biofilter in qt before?

I seem to have a constant ammonia reading after I dose CP (tablet form)

The first time I assumed it was a false positive due to the CP interacting with the kits but It didn't go away even when treatment was up, after water changes, carbon etc.

I did a comparison ammonia test with samples from my ammonia free DT, one with a high dose of CP and one without and they both read 0ppm ammonia on my API test kit.

Cheers

Nick

I haven't had any ammonia issues whilst dosing CP, but I seed my QT biomedia in a DT for months before using. So the nitrifying bacteria populations are usually very mature and established.

In newly set up QT's with a newly seeded filter, I've seen some impact from CP (like you would from copper or most other meds) but it does quickly bounce back to normal.

Thanks, I have mostly used hastily put together qt's so that would explain why the filter took a hit. My last QT I fully cycled for around 4weeks before adding any fish or meds and it took around 2 weeks for the filter to bounce back plus a bottle of bacteria BUT I did run kana after the CP so I guess the double whammy really did a number on the bacteria.
