Hi All
Any idea why my pair of clownfish are nose diving my plate coral ?? They are not being hosted by anything in my mixed reef and I have plenty of nems for them to choose from ....
They have just recently taken to spending some close time with my plate although they are not in there and bothering it . They spend a fair amount of time near it and are often almost vertical to it ....
Strange ... but that sums up clowns, hence the name I guess .... crazy little couple ...

Did you put it near a spot that they hang out in? I know when I introduce things to the tank near where my paired clowns hang out they'll pick at it a little bit before leaving it alone.

Hi, No they have been in there together for a some time . They don’t appear to be picking on it more of a “caring for it”relationship ......... but it’s just every so often they do this, not like continually all day ... [emoji848]

Probably just checking it out. As long as the coral doesn't appear to be upset, I wouldn't worry to much about it :)

Do you ever spot feed your plate coral? If so the clownfish probably made the connection between the coral & food and that's what they're looking for. I had an Ocellaris just destroy a Duncan one time due to this.

My clownfish sometimes nose dives my Blastomussa wellsi, I thought it may be because she was trying to host it but she does it so infrequently that I honestly have no clue why she does it. Following along for hopefully some clarification :)

Why my pair of clown acts certain ways sometime I would never know! The pair I have are either border line genius or extremely stupid. I haven't been able to figure it out yet. The male would like to play around the cleaner magnet while the female is busy chasing it's shadow. I stopped worrying about them.

Hi, I do try and get a few pellets to the plate when I feed the fish yes , the clowns don’t actually take anything from the plate though !!! No pun intended !!
