Maybe a stupid question, but does anybody know of any reputable aquarium builders that build 40g breeders? I know that most people get theirs from Petco for around 50 bucks, but I wouldn't mind spending a couple hundred bucks on a 40g breeder for that extra piece of mind that it's going to last the long haul, and maybe get one pre-drilled and with cleaner seams. Thoughts?

I do not, no. However you can call several of the custom builders and let them know the size and features you want. I'm sure all of them will provide you with a bid. I know when I ordered my 210 gallon they didn't have a size restriction or limit otherwise.

Got it. I mean I dont need anything as nice as a custom reef savvy tank, I just want something that's a step up from the Petco tank, ya know? This wont be my "forever" tank, just a step along the way.

Welcome to the group, saw your other post, nice looking frag.

I would be perfectly comfortable using a petco 40 breeder forever. It does not have any features, but it will last. They are made by Aqueon who used to be all glass, been around a long time. I does depend on if you wants drilled or other things. If they do a dollar a gallon you can get it for 40$

Welcome to R2R! You could always go with a custom aquarium maker. But I will say I've been using a petco/petsmart 40 bleeder since 2015 and she's still going strong ;)

Thank you! Super excited about that green slimer frag; after two years of lps only, getting into sps seems like a completely different world!

Well I'm glad to hear your vote of confidence in the Petco (aqueon) 40b. The dimensions and the price is right on that tank, I just want to make sure I'm getting a decent tank. If theres one thing I've learned in this hobby its that I'd rather just pay for a quality piece of equipment once rather than rebuy subpar stuff over and over.

Thanks for the welcome, I look forward to joining the community!

I also agree with the petco 40b, unless you want a higher quality glass, want it drilled (and you're not comfortable doing that), or some other special feature. Spend any extra money on lights and anything to support water quality.

Welcome to R2R!!!

Thanks!!

I would want it drilled, but I would be comfortable doing it myself with something like a glass holes kit or similar. And I could definitely "survive" without starphire glass haha.

40B are one of my favorite sizes. I run a deep blue 34g which is 36x18x12(a shortie) but deep blue has other 36x18 foot prints some with overflows some not.

You can also go to the 36x24 and then get the new innovative marine external overflow tank or waterbox. These are a lot more expensive than deep blue.

Look at custom aquariums.
They will do a custom 40 breeder for $385 rimless with ultra clear low iron glass
Holes are $25 each.
