Hi everyone,

I'm after some advice on my new Deltec SC1456 Skimmer if anyone is using or has used one.

I can't get it to stop foaming over badly even with the pump at it's lowest setting and the water level tube as low as it will go. I'm also having trouble with the ammount of bubbles it's creating in the sump. There's a constant stream coming from underneath the skimmer so bad that its making the water look cloudy. As you can see by the picture even the water level adjustment tube is full of bubbles!

I have it on a diy egg crate stand so that it sits at a 19cm water level, well with Deltec 15cm-25cm recommended water level.

Any advice or tips on getting this to settle in properly would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: The draining hose from the cup is only where it is in the pic because I've been trying to just let it run to see if it would sort itself out and letting the water drain back into the sump.

Thanks.

If its new may take up to a week to settle. If i use chemiclean to treat cyano skimmer does same thing for a week

Ive had it for about a month and for the first few days it was working great but then started overflowing. I changed to the aquaforest probiotic salt and have done a couple of big water changes with it but that's the only real change I've made.

I have the same skimmer. Open up the water adjustment valve quite a bit, so the water/foam column in the skimmer is much lower. You'll have to skim out some of the waste thats causing you to overflow, otherwise it will just keep doing that forever. I would allow the skimmate to drain into a container, and then replace it with clean saltwater. I had to do this with my Deltec and with my skimmer before this one. Once you get out whatever is causing the skimmer to work overtime, you can re-adjust the valve.

You'll always get some airbubbles that come out of the bottom of the skimmer, as they get trapped there from the reaction chamber, but it seems to lessen over time.

I've got the water adjustment valve fully open mate, the foam is even coming out of the wee holes on the top of the water level tube[emoji23][emoji23] I drained 50 litres into a couple of water bottles and then replaced it a few days ago but I'll maybe just have to persevere with doing that.

No. Just the skimmer and phosphate Reactor and some purigen in bags. Do you think carbon would help?

im asking because, it looks like its trying to skim out some chemicals you may have added. i thought maybe if you added some carbon you can help it absorb the chemicals, but you are already using purigen. i say that either you just keep emptying the cup and wait for it to settle or maybe do a large water change to help it along. my skimmer usually goes nuts like that when ever i add chemicals to the tank.
this is my opinion though.

I've not really added any chemicals and I've been doing 100l water changes with aquaforest probiotic salt once a week to get the system fully onto the new salt.

Something is not right, should be set and forget. From what I have read that is what deltec is known for

Yeah and it was for the first few days, I've no idea what's made it do this. I've just finished making 100l of RO/DI so I'm going to do as suggested tomorrow and let it run but drain into a bucket and replace with fresh saltwater until it calms down!

When I use epoxy it does this. When I first got it, it overflowed for the first few days. I ran a carbon reactor and opened it up all the way. After a few days it settled down and has been rock solid for me ever since.

Thanks for everyone advice and responses! As usual in this hobby a bit of patience went a long way and sitting watching it over flow for the best part of a day and topping back up with fresh saltwater has got it back to normal and skimming great. Didn't occur to me until afterwards I could have used my ato for replacing the water instead of sitting watching the sump and doing it manually!!! [emoji35] We live and learn...
