Does DI resin go bad if it gets dried out. I bought bulk DI resin and my last fill it was dry and the resin didn't seem to last more then 20 gal before the TDS creeped up pretty high.

Per Bulk Reef Supply:

"BulkReefSupply.com takes pride in the proper packing of our DI Resin. DI resin begins depleting when exposed to air. To avoid this we package all of our DI resin in foil lined 4mm Mylar bags AND vacuum seal it so no air is left in the package to deplete the resin while its waiting to be used. Our resin can remain packaged this way for 2 years without losing its capacity. Our bulk DI bags are perfect for reefers who process a lot of water or otherwise go through resin quickly. The bags are resalable via a featured zip-loc. Keep in mind this won't be as good as the original seal so we recommend them only for reefers who need a high volume of DI Resin. Otherwise purchase the single refill packs for optimal freshness up to two years."

Yes, DI must be kept sealed and moist and even then it has a shelf life of about 1 year and 6 months if opened. Never buy more than you can use in 6 months or so and always reseal it up tightly once opened, around here we used to do group buys then repackage it in seal a meal vacuum sealers and bags in 20 oz batches for the perfect refill.

OK cool, thanks for the help everyone. I am still not getting the rejection I should be from my membrane but the DI resin also dried out. Long story..but I guess from now on Ill buy the individual refill packs instead of the bulk pack. Now if I could just fill a cartridge with out getting resin every where.

Where did you get DI resin that came in one large bag? Even our 5 lb bulk resin comes as four 1.25 lb packets.

It is Bulk Reef Supply that sells it that way in a larger bag. I have a 20" refillable cartridge and I get 3 refills out of one large bag from them.

You need to vacuum seal it in 20 oz portions so it stays fresher. I also store DI resins in the back of the refrigerator so it stays cool, damp and dark.
