Diamond Goby

Okay great because I got the little guy and he’s a little over an inch and I have a very dirty sand bed lol full of food for him. If in the future I need to upgrade that’s what I’ll do.
Keep a deep sand bed, preferably 1.5-2 inches. These guys constantly sift through sand to eat copepods. You're going to want to seed your tank with some pods if you haven't already. I would recommend Tisbe pods since they reproduce the fastest and are more benthic (bottom dwelling) than the other species. Dose phyto to maintain the pod population. Also feed a frozen food maybe once a day. My blue dot sleeper goby likes frozen spirulina brine shrimp. Since you bought it as a juvenile, it most likely won't grow past 3 inches because of the size of the tank. Gobies can live up to 5 years or even longer though, so if you do ever upgrade to a larger tank in that time it will grow to its full size

Thank you!

I hear diamond gobies die a lot. They are usually underfed. Also I hear they mess up the sand bed which can be good and bad depending on the situation.
I got one and I’ll be supplementing with other food. I understand that they definitely do some rearranging.

also to add, i generally feed them specifically sinking algae pellets, in addition to the food that all of the other fish eat as well. ive had my first of two now for a year and a half doing this feeding regiment. a year of that was in a 20g long. also, these fish are a bit skiddish. they easily get frightened, and i noticedt that they seem to get scared more often in the 20g vs my 65 g. a lid is very important, because if you spook them, they will become a rocket and go for the moon. so, if i had to put my hand in the tank or had to do anything where the lid was off, i made sure to make him go under a rock first, so that he wouldnt become a space cadet.

All of the Vallenciennae gobies make a mess. Mine keeps my sand bed clean and white, so I don't mind the mess. I just blow it off with a baster. They die because the people don't supplement their diet with frozen or pellet food.

Diamond goby will eat uneaten foods in the substrate. That’s why they are useful in a non-bare bottom tank. Mine cleaned the sand of pellets that settled on the sand and got really fat. Sadly, he carpet surfed one day.
