I picked up a pair of Wantabe Angels from a local reefer who was shutting down his tank. He indicated that he had them for 3 years.

I put them in a QT setup I have to observe. They both are eating frozen foods. Its been a week now since I picked them up and the female has something going on. I'm new to fish diseases so I need help in ID'ing what she has. The male appears to be free at this time of what the female has. Please see pictures.

Thanks!

Meds I have on hand:
Copper Power
Chloroquine Phosphate
Quick Cure
PraziPro
General Cure
Fish Bendazole
Nitrofuracin Green Powder
Furan - 2
Methylene Blue
Rally
Spectogram
Metroplex
Kanaplex

Agree with rkpetersen as the round circles by mouth and gills definitely look like flukes to me. I also think there could be a bacterial infection going on especially with the frayed fins and other scale issues. That can be treated with Kanaplex, metroplex, Duran 2 or a combination of all three.

Could be flukes. A freshwater dip would answer yes or no.
Agree I’d start with a freshwater dip in a dark bucket for 5 minutes. Match temp and PH if possible. If you find sesame seed looking things afterward you have your culprit.

Be advised though that many fish have ich and velvet these days. I am not convinced that’s what I’m looking at but I’d treat for it. Uronema is also very common particularly in angels right now.

Would I just follow the directions on each of the boxes? Would the dosage vary if I use all 3?

I will look up the method for a FW dip.

These fish had been in an established tank for 3 years before I picked them up, they didn't come from a recent purchase from an LFS. So not sure if that makes a difference.

They may be stressing from transport and relocation into a QT. If they were ok in the other tank I would dump them into your DT and give them a better chance, at least the one that isn't showing these signs. GL.

If they weren’t in a quarantined system the stress of the move and the new environment can give parasites the upper hand. This is actually pretty common.

Ok I was planning on doing a FW dip. I figure why not just do both of them at the same time just to be sure if the one has flukes. I'm not comfortable putting them into my DT at this time. I'm ok with using the meds. I do have a larger tank (40 breeder) I can put them in, I would just need to make a lid for it.

Ok, makes sense.
I was planning on dipping both fish just to be sure with the flukes. When it comes to the meds, I do have some LR pieces in the QT setup. Should I remove the rock?

I would, I’d use biospira instead :)

The 40 might be a good place to put them after the dip, especially if it is bigger than the current Qt? Lots of decisions if you are going to treat them with antibiotics. Based upon your pictures I think treatment may be a good idea, especially if nothing falls off in the dip.

FYI: I usually don't qt, and my old eyes can't see fish as I can see this one in your pictures, so the condition I am looking at is magnified in my perspective. GL

I personally don’t use a quarantine any smaller than a 40 gallon tall tank as I think the larger size quarantine helps reduce the stress. Humblefish has the particulars on how to mix the Kanaplex, metroplex and furan2 over in the fish disease pictorial index forum. I have often used Seachems Kanaplex, metroplex and focus and just gone the route of mixing it with the food.

I have been using microbacter 7.
If you’ve had good luck with it, keep it up! :)

Always use the ammonia alert badge by seachem as well to check its work ;)

I was getting ready to do a FW dip. I measured the temp of the QT setup. The temp was just over 85 degrees. My heater is stuck on. Of course the one time I didn't use a heater controller the heater gets stuck on. I'm going to wait till the tank cools back down to 77-78 degrees before I do the FW dip. I don't want to stress the fish anymore at this point. I will update once I do the FW dip and if I see any flukes.

In reading for the FW dip do I use RO/DI water or tap water? I've read that RO/DI water can't be reliably measured for pH.
